College Student Run Over, Killed by Pickup Driver After Minor Car Accident: Police

An 18-year-old Long Island student was run over and killed by another driver after she got out of her vehicle following a minor collision in her hometown, authorities say.

Taranjit Parmar, a biology student at Adelphi University, was driving a 2018 Jeep east on Hempstead Turnpike shortly before 5 p.m. Thursday when a red pickup truck trying to turn east near Gardiners Lane in Levittown hit her vehicle, police say.

Both drivers immediately pulled off the road after the accident. Parmar stepped out of her SUV. When she did, the pickup driver hit her with his truck and ran her over, leaving her to die in the street.

Parmar was pronounced dead at a hospital a short time later with trauma to the head and chest area.

Photos on the woman's Facebook page indicate she had a zest for life and loved outdoor activities. According to her LinkedIn page, Parmar was studying biology at Adelphi University; she had a 4.0 GPA and had been scheduled to graduate in 2020.

The driver remains at large. Anyone with information is asked to call Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS.
