Long Island Family Fears They Were Targeted in Car Fires

A Long Island family is living in fear after waking up to find their family vehicles burned in what they suspect was an intentionally set fire.

The pre-dawn fires outside the Hicksville family's home damaged an SUV and a pickup truck.

"My kids just started crying when they saw what was going on," said Odilia Perez, a mother of three.

Perez believes someone set the fires, although police have yet to confirm that. She suspects a former tenant is behind the fires. Adding to her fear was the discovery of what appeared to be bullet holes in the pickup truck's hood.

"You have to have no heart to do something like that," she said. "I don't even feel safe saying in this house now."

Perez said her husband used the truck for his landscaping business and because she doesn't think her insurance will cover the damages. Right now, she's not sure how he will continue to make a living for the family.

"Now we're stuck. It's hard because we don't have income," said Perez. "I don't have transportation. It's very hard for me and the three kids."

Perez hopes surveillance video from a neighbor's camera will lead to an arrest.
