Hey Brooklyn, Cut the Salt!

Nearly 30 percent of Brooklynites have high blood pressure...

From Coney Island to Williamsburg, Brooklyn residents are being urged to “cut the salt” today.

Officials with the New York City Health Department have joined with the American Heart Association and religious leaders to declare today “Cut the Salt!” Day in Brooklyn.

Health officials said nearly 30 percent of Brooklyn adults have been diagnosed with high blood pressure, which is linked to high salt intake.

The department wants to remind New Yorkers that people with high blood pressure are more likely to suffer a heart attack or stroke. So drop that hot dog, steer clear of the salt shaker and ride your bike to work.
