Senate Stalls Again, This Time on Honeymoon

Whether its leadership or honeymoons, Dems can't call a quorum

Whether its leadership or honeymoons, Dems can't call a quorum.

A New York state Democratic senator went home today after a scheduled session to deal with crucial local government issues was pushed back multiple times.

Sen. Carl Kruger, of Brooklyn, says the plan to bring the Senate back Wednesday to tackle important bills is "an exercise in futility."  Among the bills waiting to finally be seen -- mayoral control over New York City schools.

Kruger said without all of the Democrats -- Daniel Squadron of Brooklyn is on honeymoon after getting married last weekend --  they don't have the minimum 32-senator majority to pass legislation.

He also said any version of legislation that the Senate could pass giving the New York City mayor authority over the city's schools would differ from one that passed the Assembly. The two chambers must have matching bills to become law.

It's unclear if the Senate will go into session Wednesday.

The latest delays come less than a week after warring Democrats and Republicans broke their stalemate after a June 8 coup.
