2 Men Dead in Shooting on Long Island

Police are hunting for a shooter on Long Island after two men were fatally shot on a residential street Monday afternoon.

Two people were shot just after 1 p.m. Monday on Belmont Parkway near Greenwich Street in the Village of Hempstead.

Police saw a person running into a home after the shooting, so officers surround the house for hours after the shooting. Early Tuesday, a robot was sent into the house to make an initial sweep, and then officers went in and found no one inside.

It's not clear where the shooter is now.

Police cordoned off the street have ordered residents to stay in their homes during the standoff.

The body of one of the men was seen lying on a lawn. The second victim was taken to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow where he was pronounced dead.
