Dozens Left Homeless, 8 Hurt in Long Island Fire

Eight people are injured and dozens are homeless after an apartment building fire on Long Island.
 
The fire started in a Hempstead apartment building at 6:20 a.m. Saturday and spread to several nearby buildings.

A police spokeswoman says eight people were taken to hospitals. She says one person is in critical condition.

It was unclear what caused the fire.
 
The American Red Cross says it is helping about 70 people who have been displaced by the fire.
