50 Gallons of Heating Oil Spill on Midtown Street, Drip into Subway

Four people, including the driver, got oil on them, officials said

A heating oil delivery truck spilled 50 gallons of heating oil in midtown Manhattan Tuesday morning, sloshing it onto four people and sending about 10 gallons dripping into the subway below the street, officials said.

The driver of the Marathon Energy truck got oil on himself, and he was taken to the hospital, fire officials said.

Three bystanders also were hit with oil after the spill near Seventh Avenue and West 36th Street. They were seen on the street wearing white hazmat suits as authorities worked to decontaminate them.

The MTA said two nearby subway trains ran express but service was later restored to normal.
