Trump Pulls a Fast One on Press

President-elect Donald Trump emerged from his Manhattan skyscraper Tuesday night for the first time in days, moving about the nation's largest city without a pool of journalists on hand to ensure the public has knowledge of his whereabouts. Trump had a steak dinner with his family at the swanky 21 Club but didn’t notify the press ahead of time, a tradition that every president and president-elect in recent memory has adhered to. Trump was hidden from the public in Trump Tower most of Tuesday with Vice President-elect Mike Pence as he tried to fill out key posts in his Cabinet. But the transition team appeared to be straining under the enormous challenge of setting up a new administration. Meanwhile, sources tell NBC 4 New York that the Secret Service and NYPD are considering closing a lane on Fifth Avenue or shutting down parts of the avenue near the building during the president-elect's visits once he's inaugurated.

Trump Place to Drop Name

Trump Place, a high-rise condominium complex near Lincoln Square on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, is about to get a name change. The three buildings will drop the name of the president-elect in favor of their street addresses, 140, 160 and 180 Riverside Boulevard. The name change comes after nearly 600 people signed a Change.org petition created by three residents to have the building drop the moniker and get rid of the gold-emblazoned name on the structure's facade.

Bill to Abolish Electoral College

U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA) is introduced legislation Tuesday that would eliminate the Electoral College, so that presidential elections would be decided by the popular vote. The move is in response to Donald Trump's presidential victory last week. The president-elect won through the Electoral College, although Hillary Clinton is leading the popular vote by nearly a million votes, a statement from Boxer's office read.

Grad Goes Missing in NYC

Police continued to collect evidence from a luxury apartment building in Manhattan on Wednesday morning, three days after a 26-year-old Stamford, Connecticut, man went missing while visiting the location. Police say there are signs of foul play in the disappearance of Hofstra University graduate Joey Comunale. He was last seen entering the building on Sunday. Investigators have taken large amounts of evidence, including bloody sheets and clothing.

Sandy Hook Families Appeal

The families of some of the victims killed in the 2012 Newtown school shooting have asked a court to reinstate their wrongful-death lawsuit against the maker of the rifle used in the massacre. In October, a Superior Court judge dismissed the lawsuit against Remington Arms, citing an embattled federal law that shields gun manufacturers from most lawsuits over criminal use of their products.

U.S. Capitol Gets a Makeover

A special unveiling ceremony Tuesday officially marked the end of a two-year construction project on the U.S. Capitol building, just in time for the 2017 inauguration of Donald Trump. The last time the dome was restored was during the Eisenhower administration. See photos of the restoration.

Real Life Han and Leia Affair

“Star Wars” actress Carrie Fisher, who for years has hinted that she and Harrison Ford may have had a romantic fling in the past, confirmed the relationship in an interview with People magazine. "It was so intense," the 60-year-old actress revealed. "It was Han and Leia during the week, and Carrie and Harrison during the weekend."
