Halloween Crash Victims Mourned at Bronx Funeral

A 10-year-old girl and her grandfather, killed a week ago when a car hopped a curb and hit a small group of trick-or-treaters, were mourned Saturday at a funeral in the Bronx.

Pallbearers carried the caskets of Nyanna Aquil and her 65-year-old grandfather, Louis Perez, into the Harvest Fields Community Church as the girl's mother and sisters watched.

"I just want peace for my daughter and my father," said Natalia Perez.

The two were among the pedestrians walking near the corner of Morris Park and Radcliff avenues on Halloween when a car plowed into them and smashed into a fence in the front yard of a home.

Kristian Leka, 24, also was killed. His 9-year-old sister and a 21-year-old female friend were injured but not critically. Aquil's 3-year-old sister also was hospitalized.

Leka's funeral is scheduled for Wednesday.

Police have been examining whether the 52-year-old driver may have suffered a medical emergency such as a seizure when he lost control of his vehicle.
