Gulf Oil Ire Spills Over Into Manhattan

Vandal smears BP gas station sign with black paint

A Manhattan BP gas station owner found a dark goopy smudge covering the logo above the station -- the apparent paint job of a vandal enraged about the massive oil spill in the Gulf.

While many critics of BP's handling of the devastating spill may laud the vandal's "artwork," the gas station owner said the point is lost on his or her intended target.

"They don't understand that they're not hitting BP, they're hitting an independent business man," the owner of the gas station, who asked not to be named, told the New York Daily News.

Some New Yorkers expressed amusement or satisfaction at the sign's new paint job. For the gas station's patrons, however, gas is gas.

"I'm driving a car and I need to fill it up," one commuter told the News

BP is the oil company whose offshore rig in the Gulf of Mexico experienced an explosion and then sank, killing 11 people and causing a massive oil leak

Officials today confirmed oil sightings nine miles from Pensacola Beach in Florida, according to MSNBC.
