Long Island School District Investigating Video Showing Guard Tackling Student

A high school security guard on Long Island is under investigation after video was posted to a Facebook page showing him taking down a 16-year-old boy.

The Brentwood High School guard was caught on camera grabbing a 16-year-old boy by the neck and taking him to ground on a sidewalk outside the school. Two other guards can be seen coming to their co-worker’s aid as the teen struggles on the ground.

Suffolk County police said the boy was later charged with trespassing and was allegedly on school grounds to confront another student on the high school’s football team. He was told to leave school grounds, and was taken down when he refused.

Police said that no complaints have been filed in the case, but the school district said it is conducting an internal investigation. All three guards seen in the footage are being barred from having contact with students during the inquiry.

It’s not clear who captured the video, which was later posted to a Facebook group for parents in the area.

Several parents outside the school told NBC 4 New York they didn’t think the guard took the appropriate action.

“If he didn’t put his hands on nobody, all they had to do was escort him off the premises,” said Bridgette Buckner. “They just tackled him, that’s just crazy.”

Other parents defended the guards.
