Group Seeks Donations for Pony's Surgery

The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in Suffolk County on Long Island is asking for donations to help pay for eye surgery on a rescued pony.

The 12-year-old pony was rescued from a farm this spring.

The Suffolk County SPCA says it needs surgery to remove one of its eyes. It is now being treated with medication, but would be in "severe pain," without it, the SPCA says.

The surgery costs $5,000, and there will be additional costs for recovery and medication.

Roy Gross, chief of the group, asks the public to "look into your hearts, dig deep into your pockets," to help the pony.

Donations can be sent to the Suffolk County SPCA, 363 Rt. 111, Smithtown, N.Y., 11787.
