The wife of jazz great Eddie Palmieri was grazed in the head by a bullet Tuesday night -- shot by an 81-year-old neighbor, police said.

Iraida Palmieri, 73, was treated at Jamaica Hospital and released with minor injuries.

Neighbors told police the alleged gun-wiedling granny, Maria Cartagena, may have thought Palmieri was making romantic advances toward her 60-year-old husband.

In other accounts of the dispute, Cartagena was allegedly fed up over noise filtering up from Palmieri's Forest Hills apartment.

Palmieri told police that she was taking out garbage around 7 p.m. when the elevator stopped and Cartagena got onboard.

Law enforcement sources said Cartagena repeatedly yelled "Move over I'm gonna kill ya" before pulling a .38 caliber revolver from a fanny pack.

Cartagena faces attempted murder, assault and weapons charges, according to police.

Eddie Palmieri has won nine Grammy Awards during his career.
