Manhole Fire Near Grand Central Terminal Causes Delays

Thousands of Metro-North commuters were delayed

A manhole fire near Grand Central Terminal delayed thousands of commuters Tuesday night.

FDNY officials said a damaged transformer at Park Avenue and 50th Street sent black smoke billowing into the track level on the north side of Grand Central, and that delayed the ride home for thousands of Metro-North commuters.

Firefighters went into the station as a precaution.

No one was hurt.
