Good Samaritans Return Rare Chinese Instrument

A musician who lost his Chinese stringed instrument in Manhattan now has it back. A New Jersey man found it and a Michigan woman figured out who owned it.

Wang Guowei left his erhu in front of a concert hall on Feb. 28.

Bryan Newton, of Jersey City, found it.

Newton tried calling a number inside the case, but misread one digit. Instead of getting Wang, he reached a perplexed Betsy Wong in Michigan.

About a week later, Wong read about Wang's lost erhu.

Oddly enough, Wong works for an arts group in Kalamazoo, where Wang played three years ago.

She was able to connect the men. The erhu was returned Wednesday.
