Senator Kirsten Gillibrand speaks at a roundtable discussion in Huntington, N.Y., Monday, Oct. 18, 2010.

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand is heading to Afghanistan and Pakistan to meet with troops and officials.

Gillibrand, who serves on the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, is leaving this week with a delegation of senators. Gillibrand aides say they cannot release details of the trip due to security concerns. They did not identify the other senators.

They will stop in Afghanistan for meetings with military commanders, diplomats and troops. The delegation will then head to Pakistan for more meetings with officials

Gillibrand supports the Obama administration's timetable for a withdrawal from Afghanistan. Aides say she wants to assess its progress.

Gillibrand last Tuesday was elected to the seat she was appointed to last year to replace Hillary Rodham Clinton.
