Pataki: GOP Field Lacks Debt Focus

Former New York Gov. George Pataki says the Republican presidential field isn't taking the nation's debt and deficit seriously enough.

A potential Republican candidate himself, Pataki says none of the presidential campaigns has focused enough on what he calls the key issue facing America.

His comments came after a roundtable discussion with top state officials Thursday at the New Hampshire Institute of Politics at St. Anselm College. Pataki, a three-term governor, says he's seriously thinking about a run and will make a decision very soon.

Thursday's visit was Pataki's third trip this year to the state that holds the opening presidential primary in the nation.

While he was critical of the GOP field, Pataki says that any of the candidates would be a significant upgrade over President Barack Obama.
