Hundreds of people are being forced outside over reports of a gas smell at a high-rise building in New Jersey's largest city, authorities say.
Fire officials said evacuations were underway after the gas smell was reported at a building on Park Place in Newark shortly after 1 p.m. Tuesday.
Utility PSE&G found no active leak, fire officials said, but the evacuations were ordered as a precaution.
