Funeral Scheduled for NYPD Detective Killed in Afghanistan

A New York police detective killed on patrol in Afghanistan will receive an NYPD Inspector's funeral with full military honors at St. Patrick's Cathedral.

The funeral for Det. Joseph Lemm is scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday.

Burial will follow the services at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne.

Reposing is planned from 2 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at St. Anthony Padua Church in West Harrison.

Lemm, a 15-year veteran of the department, was on routine security patrol with his convoy around Bagram Airfield north of Kabul last week when a suicide bomber drove a motorcycle into the convoy and blew himself up, NBC News reported.

The Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Lemm, serving in the U.S. Air National Guard, was one of six Americans killed in the attack.
