Friday Brings More Rain, Coastal Flooding Threat

Rain and wind moved through the tri-state again Friday, bringing more dreary conditions to the region along with the chance for coastal flooding spurred by astronomical high tides, Storm Team 4 says.

The entire region had to deal with yet another day of drizzly, dank weather after a week of steely skies and intermittent rain. Highs again were well below seasonable averages for May, and a chilly breeze combined with at times heavy rain that made going outside pretty unpleasant.

The weather was blamed for a downed tree in Newark Friday afternoon, and it made travel conditions somewhat tenuous across the region.

And the headaches could be worse this evening for people living in coastal areas: Storm Team 4 says that tides swollen by the persistent winds and the pull of a new moon could cause coastal flooding.

New York City's Office of Emergency Management has issued an advisory to all people living in coastal neighborhoods to expect the possibility of widespread moderate coastal flooding, especially in Queens and Brooklyn.

But if there's any consolation, it's that Friday's wet weather should signal end of the gray, chilly conditions we've been seeing.

Storm Team 4 says that clouds will begin to break up Saturday as temperatures climb into the low 60s. Mother's Day will start off a bit stormy, but the clouds should clear by the afternoon and highs are forecast to hit the upper 60s.

The next workweek should get off to a beautiful start as highs climb into the 70s amid sunny skies, Storm Team 4 says.

There's another chance for more rain Tuesday and Wednesday.
