Fossella Not Hiding From Spotlight

Vito Fossella has given up his congressional seat. But he hasn't relinquished his front-and-center role in the Staten Island Republican Party.

Fossella was invited to a school reading event this week. He recently got a standing ovation at a GOP dinner. And he was welcomed at Mayor Michael Bloomberg's campaign office opening.

Fossella seemed to sidestep a question Tuesday about whether he'd ever run for office again. In December, he told reporters he had “no plans whatsoever” to do so.

He decided not to seek re-election after his Virginia arrest on a drunken driving charge led to revelations he'd fathered a child during an affair.

Fossella has appealed his conviction, which under Virginia law means he's entitled to a jury trial.
