Former Police Official Will Head World Trade Center Security

A former police official has been tapped to oversee security at the World Trade Center.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey announced George Anderson's appointment Monday. He'll be responsible for safeguarding a 16-acre site that is one of the most security-conscious places in the country but has seen some breaches during construction in recent years.

Prior security director Doug Farber left for another job this year.

Anderson retired as a NYPD assistant chief, then became a vice president of Allied Barton Security Services.

Allied Barton became the trade center's security contractor in June 2014, months after it emerged that a teenager had sneaked to the top of the then-unfinished One World Trade Center tower and three parachutists had jumped from it.
