Former NYPD Cop Sentenced in Years-Long Sex Abuse of Young Girl at Her Home: DA

A former NYPD cop has been sentenced to prison after being convicted of sexually molesting a girl over a period of three years, according to prosecutors.

Jacob Sabbagh, 34, of Midwood, Brooklyn, began molesting the girl when she was 10, the Brooklyn District Attorney's office said. The abuse happened when he stayed over the girl's family's home in Flatbush each month, between June 2005 and March 2008.

Sabbagh, who joined the NYPD in 2009, was a friend of the family, authorities said.

The victim and her family moved out of the country, and when she was 16, the girl told her mother about the abuse, according to prosecutors. The case was referred to local authorities in New York City.

Sabbagh was heard admitting to the sexual abuse and apologizing in phone conversations between him and the victim, according to evidence presented at his trial, prosecutors said.

He was convicted of second-degree sexual conduct against a child in a jury trial in June. Sabbagh was sentenced Wednesday to three years in prison followed by three years of post-release supervision.

His sentence has been stayed pending an appeal.
