Former Mets Pitcher Facing Tax Evasion Charges

Former Mets pitcher Jerry Koosman, is scheduled to enter a plea to federal tax evasion charges in Wisconsin this afternoon.

Koosman, 66, was charged in April with failing to file an income tax return before April 15, 2003. Court documents said Koosman lived in Osceola in 2002. A message left at his home there was not returned Friday afternoon.

Koosman, a left-hander, pitched for the New York Mets and won two games in the 1969 World Series. He also pitched for the Minnesota Twins, the Chicago White Sox and the Philadelphia Phillies.

Koosman is still the winningest southpaw in Mets team history with 140 career wins. Koosman won two games for the "Mircacle Mets" in the 1969 World Series. Koosman played for the Mets from 1967 to 1978 and finished with 222 total wins during his 19-year major league career.

Koosman's attorney, Robert Bernhoft, didn't immediately return a message left at his office.
