Police Eye Copycat in Rubbish Fires After Arsons in Queens

New York City police suspect a copycat may be responsible for three rubbish fires set in a neighborhood predominantly populated by Bukharian Jews where investigators are searching for a serial arsonist.

NYPD Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce says Friday that three fires set Wednesday night do not appear to be committed by the same person responsible for torching six buildings in the Forest Hills neighborhood. Police believe that suspect set seven fires in six weeks.

Boyce says investigators have video of both the serial arsonist and the person who set the rubbish fires. He says the two men do not have the same physical description.

Investigators suspect the person responsible for the rubbish fires lives in the neighborhood and may be a copycat of the serial arsonist.
