Five Boro Bike Tour Closes NYC Streets

30,000 cyclists are taking to the streets Sunday

Thousands of cyclists are rolling through New York City Sunday as part of the Five Boro Bike Tour.

The event will close several streets throughout the five boroughs, causing heavy delays at times. Here are some highlights of the major closures:

  • Verrazano Bridge: Lower level closed both ways; 2 Brooklyn-bound lanes open 8 a.m.; Staten Island-bound lanes open 6 p.m.
  • Battery Tunnel: Brooklyn-bound diverted from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Ramp to RFK Bridge off FDR closed from 8 a.m. to noon
  • RFK Bridge Manhattan-bound traffic rerouted to 125th street

The race consists of three waves of 30,000 cyclists from all over the country.

The tour started 35 years ago with only 250 cyclists.
