Firefighters who rescued 16 people from a deadly Manhattan crane collapse are receiving a medal named in honor of 9/11 heroes.
Six members of Ladder 4 in midtown have been chosen to receive the World Trade Center Memorial Medal.
They pulled survivors from the rubble after the March 15, 2008, crane disaster on East 51st Street. The accident killed six construction workers and a tourist.
The City Hall ceremony on Thursday also honors other firefighters, medical workers and emergency officials.
A contractor was indicted on homicide charges in January in connection with the deadly crane collapse. William Rapetti was indicted on homicide and other charges.
In September, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration cited Rapetti Rigging Services Inc. of Massapequa Park, on Long Island, for improperly using slings recommended by the manufacturer to stabilize the crane.
The incident was one in a wave of fatal construction mishaps in the city. On May 30, another tower crane broke apart and fell on an apartment building, killing two workers including Grant City resident Donald Leo. Other crane operations were suspended temporarily.
