Firefighters Rebuild Vandalized 9/11 Monument on Long Island

Firefighters on Long Island worked through the night and into Sunday morning to rebuilt a community's 9/11 memorial that apparently had been destroyed by vandals.

The memorial had been erected and maintained in Long Beach by long-time resident Bill Murphy.

On Friday night, vandals tore down the upper portion of the monument which supported several flags. The monument's base was still intact.

Firefighters purchased building materials Saturday night and by 11 a.m. Sunday finished rebuilding the monument, which features an eight-foot flagpole.
