Blaze Rips Through Midtown Pub

Firefighters battled a two-alarm fire in a Midtown building home to a popular Irish pub.

The fire department says the blaze broke out around 5:10 p.m. Saturday in the three-story building where Connolly's Pub and Restaurant is located.

The fire eventually spread to the roof of the building at 45th Street and 6th Avenue. It went to a second alarm around 5:30 p.m. and was brought under control by 7 p.m. The FDNY's efforts involved 25 units and 106 firefighters.

One firefighter suffered minor injuries, and a person at the scene also had minor injuries but refused medical attention.

Connolly's has three locations in the area and advertises itself as a haven for Notre Dame football fans.

The Fighting Irish were at halftime of their home game against Rice when the fire broke out.
