Firefighter Arrested for Robbing Off-Duty Officer: Cops

The officer was punched and his book bar was stolen, according to authorities

A firefighter was part of a gang of men who assaulted and robbed an off-duty police officer in Queens last Sunday, police say.

Firefighter Angel Valerio, 30, was allegedly with three other men when they crossed paths with the off-duty cop on Austin Street, and one of them bumped into the officer.

The officer identified himself as NYPD, but that didn't stop one of the men in the group from punching him, authorities say. The men also stole the cop's book bag before fleeing, police say.

Information on a lawyer for Valerio, who was arrested and charged with robbery on Friday, was not immediately available.
