Fire Sweeps Through 3-Story House in Newark

Fire caused major damage to a three-story house Sunday night in Newark, forcing 19 people to find new homes.

The fire started in a house at 318 Runyon Street and embers from the blaze ignited fires in two houses next door, fire officials said.

Davone Murphy was walking down the street when the fire started encountered a woman who fled the buring house and asked him to help retrieve her husband who was still inside, a fire official said. Murphy rushed inside and spotted the woman's husband in second-floor kitchen, which was engulfed in flames. He hoisted the man onto his shoulders and carried him out of the building.

No injuries were reported.
