Fire Rips Through NJ Building

A fire ripped through a three-story brick building Saturday in New Jersey and forced the evacuation of adjacent buildings, officials said.

Dozens of firefighters battled flames as thick smoke billowed from the roof of the building on Communipaw Avenue in Jersey City. The building houses a hair salon at street level and apartments on the upper floors.

One firefighter was injured by falling debris, officials said. He was taken to the Jersey City Medical Center. Information about his condition wasn't available.

More than two dozen people were displaced by the 3:15 p.m. fire.
