A former fare-beater confessed to his sins, sending the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority $300 in cash along with a letter of apology.
The author, who identified himself as Matthew Andrewes, wrote to the transit authority June 9, saying he often avoided paying for fares when he was in his teens and early 20s, according to The Boston Globe.
"I am so sorry," he wrote. "Please accept this money as compensation."
MBTA spokesman Joe Pesaturo told the Globe some fare-evading passengers have owned up and paid some restitution in the past, but the most the fare collection department had received in such a case to date was $2.65.
Brian Shortsleeve, chief administration of the MBTA, said the authority appreciated the apology.
