Firefighters Rescue Injured Hawk Near World Trade Center

Firefighters swooped in to rescue an injured red-tailed hawk Monday near the World Trade Center.

The bird of prey was spotted on the ground in lower Manhattan with some apparent injuries, according to the FDNY. Firefighters covered the bird with a blanket and took it to a station house.

Once there, a firefighter who is also a licensed wildlife rehabilitator took a look at the bird, which appears to be in good spirits.

It's not clear when the bird will be back in the skies.

The rescue comes just a day after NYPD officers rescued a hawk from the East River.

Hawks, particularly red-tailed hawks, have been increasingly taking up residence in New York City.
