Ex-NY Newsman Out of Jail Early in Wife Assault

A former cable TV newsman convicted of assaulting his wife at their Ramapo home has been released from jail after serving only 19 days of a 30-day sentence.

Sheriff's Department Detective Lt. William Barbera told the Journal News that 45-year-old Dominic Carter was released Tuesday after his sentence was reduced for good behavior and time served.

Carter was convicted in November for attacking his wife Marilyn during an Oct. 2008 argument. He is appealing the conviction. He was also ordered to stay away from his wife for two years.

His lawyer, Julia Kuan, told the Daily News that Carter is doing well and working hard at a comeback.

Carter was influential in city and state politics as host of NY1's "Inside City Hall.'' He was taken off the air after NY1 learned of the incident.
