Former Giants defensive tackle Linval Joseph, shown here in a 2013 game, was shot in a Minneapolis nightclub.

Linval Joseph, who played for the New York Giants for years before transferring to the Minnesota Vikings as a defensive tackle, has been shot in a Minneapolis nightclub.

Joseph was shot in the calf, the Vikings said in a statement. He was among nine people injured in the shooting at the downtown venue. The team described Joseph, who was treated for a minor injury and released, as an innocent bystander.

Two people with serious injuries were in stable condition Saturday and expected to survive, police spokesman Scott Seroka said. He didn't know the exact condition of the other seven but described most as having minor injuries.

Club owner Johann Sfaellos told the Star Tribune it was a typical night with patrons busy socializing and dancing, with no fights until he heard gunshots.

Police are still looking for the shooter.
