Mother: NJ Student Drinking Before Pa. College Campus Death

Everett Glenn, of Montclair, N.J., was pronounced dead at Easton Hospital on Saturday afternoon

The mother of a New Jersey college student who died after he was found unconscious in a residence hall at Lafayette College in Pennsylvania says her son had been drinking earlier at a birthday celebration.

The school said Everett Glenn, of Montclair, N.J., was pronounced dead at Easton Hospital on Saturday afternoon. Officials said police and the Northampton County coroner's office were investigating the cause of death, but there was no sign of foul play.

Glenn's mother, Joanne Glenn, told The (Easton) Express-Times that her son went to lie down after "drinking too much" as he celebrated his 19th birthday. She said an emergency room doctor said he died of cardiac arrest.

Friends and classmates wept and embraced at a prayer service Saturday night that drew about one-third of the student body.
