PHOTOS: Intrepid Makes Way for Enterprise Shuttle

Three historic aircraft will be moved from the Intrepid to make room for the shuttle

With space shuttle Enterprise set to arrive in New York City next week, crews on the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum were busy making way for the orbiter.

In preparation for the arrival of Enterprise, three historic aircraft will be removed from the flight deck of the Intrepid by crane Wednesday morning, officials told News 4. The aircraft will be placed onto a barge in the Hudson River at Pier 86 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Next Monday, Enterprise will fly over some landmarks in the New York City area, including the Statue of Liberty and the Intreprid, before it touches down at Kennedy Airport.

In June, the Enterprise will be demated from the NASA shuttle carrier aircraft and moved by tugboat up the Hudson River to the Intrepid, where it will be placed on exhibit to the public.
