Elderly Woman in Walker Put in Choke Hold, Robbed: Police

Police are searching for the couple who robbed the 89-year-old woman

Police are searching for a couple captured on surveillance video attacking an elderly woman using a walker, putting her in a choke hold before robbing her and running away in a Brooklyn building.

Police said the woman was assaulted Saturday morning inside an East New York building on Bethel Loop. Video shows the 89-year-old victim entering her building with a walker, and the suspects, a man and a woman, walking in behind her.

Once the three got into the elevator, the man grabbed the elderly woman and put her in a choke hold, while the woman grabbed her purse, stole her money and took off, police said.

The victim did not need medical attention and is OK, but neighbors were in disbelief that someone would deliberately target another person so vulnerable.

"Especially if someone's 89 years old. I mean, really, how much money could she have had on her?" said Naima Aken.

Anyone who recognizes the suspects is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS.
