A 76-year-old New York man is accused of shooting his 74-year-old wife in the chest with a shotgun at their home.
Prosecutors said Mario Vallorosi shot his wife as close range at about 4 a.m. on June 15.
Their adult son was in the house at the time and went to investigate after hearing a noise.
He found his mother lying on a sofa in an upstairs computer room, prosecutors said.
The wife, who prosecutors said worked with special needs children, survived and is still in serious condition at a nursing facility.
Authorities said Vallorosi is represented by Legal Aid, which does not comment on cases.
