Elderly Man Put Into Chokehold, Dragged to Dark Stairwell in Robbery on Upper East Side: Police

A suspect put an elderly man into a chokehold and dragged him to a dark Manhattan stairwell where another suspect stole his wallet and over $200 in cash, police say.

Police say on June 19 just after 1 a.m., one the two men put the 79-year-old man into a chokehold and pulled him into a stairwell on Park Avenue on the Upper East Side.

The second man then took the elderly man’s wallet that had $250 and several credit cards inside, according to the NYPD.

Surveillance video from the scene shows the two men appearing from the dark staircase and leave the area. One of the men carried a bag and the other wore a hat.
