Elderly Man Beaten to Death at Assisted Living Facility in Long Island: Suffolk County Police

An elderly man was found beaten to death in his room at an assisted living facility in Long Island on Sunday morning, Suffolk County police said.

Staff members at Lake Shore Adult Home found Francis McCaffrey unresponsive in his room at around 10:15 a.m., authorities said.

Upon further investigation by Suffolk County Police Department's Homicide Squad, detectives revealed that Roger Diamond repeatedly hit the 82-year-old, causing his death.

Diamond fled the scene and jumped out of a second-floor window of the facility, approximately 15 feet from the ground, police said. He was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he was treated for his injuries.

The 73-year-old was charged with second-degree murder and will be arraigned at a later daight, authorities said.

McCaffrey's official cause of death will be determined by the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.

The investigation is ongoing.
