In the East Village yesterday afternoon, various preservationist groups spoke out against plans to demolish the Adas Le Israel Anshei Meseritz at 415 East Sixth St. (at First Ave.) to make way for a spiffy six-story residential building that includes a synagogue. The NYT spoke with a third party on the topic, Andrew S. Dolkart, a professor of historic preservation at Columbia. He says he favors preserving the structure because cities should protect "architecture that not only reflects the lives and history of the rich, but also the incredibly history of common people in New York."
