A True ‘Early Bird' Traveler: Hawk Captured in New York Penn Station

A hawk gave new meaning to the term "early bird" traveler.

A red-shouldered hawk was safely captured Christmas Eve at New York Penn Station by a detective with the NYPD Emergency Service Unit.

In a tweet, NYPD Special Ops jokingly said the hawk "attempted to beat the holiday rush last night but missed the train."

Authorities say the bird was not injured.

The New York Post reports workers with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority called police for help Sunday night after the hawk that was chasing a pigeon ended up in a transit booth.

Police say Detective Joseph Bucchignano removed the uninjured hawk from the booth, caged it, and released it over the Hudson River.

It is unclear what happened to the pigeon.
