Drunk Man Told Cops He Was Robbed While Playing ‘Pokémon Go' in Central Park

Police later found his phone on the ground inside the park

A man lied to police about being robbed while playing "Pokémon Go" in Central Park, then later admitted to losing his phone because he was drunk, authorities said.

The intoxicated 23-year-old told cops he was playing the game while walking through the park near East 106th Street when a man ambushed him from behind, shoved him to the ground, and stole his cellphone at around 12:45 a.m., the New York Post reported.

Police searched the area and tracked the phone to an area inside the park, authorities said.

Police found the phone lying on the ground before the man retracted his story and admitted he likely dropped his phone while walking because he was drunk.

No charges have been filed as of Sunday morning.
