Drugs Seized From Closet of Long Island home

A 20-year-old man faces drug and weapons charges after detectives found cocaine, heroin and a loaded handgun with a defaced serial number at his Long Island home.

Thomas J. LaColla pleaded not guilty to the charges in Riverhead court. A judge set his bail at $50,000.

Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota says detectives found about 14 grams of cocaine, two grams of heroin, plastic bags, scales and a .9-mm handgun in a bedroom closet at LaColla's Riverhead home on Northville Turnpike.

He says the chunk of heroin could be split “into 40 to 50 mini ziplock bags for sale on the street.''

The Legal Aid Society represented LaColla during his court appearance on Friday and did not return a call for comment.
