Driver Found With Up to 300 Gallons of Stolen Gas on Whitestone Bridge: Sources

Police believe the man was transporting the allegedly stolen fuel for sale or for personal use, law-enforcement sources say.

Police are investigating a case of possible fuel theft after stopping a car toting dozens of gasoline canisters on the Whitestone Bridge Sunday evening.

When police stopped the suspicious van, they found several dozen gasoline drums containing as much as 300 gallons worth of fuel, according to sources familiar with the investigation.

The driver was questioned and sources indicate the gasoline may have been stolen.

Police believe the man was transporting the allegedly stolen fuel for sale or for personal use, law-enforcement sources say.

The investigation is ongoing.
