Man Charged With Drugged Driving After Crash Kills Biker: Police

A 22-year-old Long Island man was charged with driving while impaired by drugs Saturday after being involved in a crash that killed a motorcyclist.

Sabelo Ndala, of Port Jefferson Station, was attempting to turn onto Hyson Way in Coram at about 1:55 p.m. when his 2010 Volkswagon Jetta slammed into a Harley Davidson motorcycle, Suffolk County police said.

The motorcyclist, Heissen Buttel, 56, of South Setauket, was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital where he died from his injuries, investigators said.

Ndala, who wasn't injured, was charged with driving while ability is impaired by drugs and second-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

He was being held overnight and was scheduled to be arraigned Sunday in Central Islip. There was no indication he had obtained a lawyer who could comment on the charges.
