Driver Arrested After Van Kills Pregnant Woman

A pregnant New York City mother of three has been struck and killed by a commercial van, and police have arrested a man they say was the driver.

Twenty-nine-year-old Ysemny Ramos of Brooklyn died Friday after the van jumped a curb in midtown Manhattan, hitting her and another woman.

The second woman was treated and released from a hospital.

Police spokesman Lt. John Grimpel said Sunday that 27-year-old Keston Brown, a carpenter and maintenance worker for a supermarket chain, is being held on charges of manslaughter, assault, and driving while intoxicated.

Brown's lawyer, Patrick Watts, said the van had mechanical problems.

Brown had taken the van to mechanics several times and was assured it was fixed, according to Watts

Ramos, who was three months pregnant, also is survived by her husband.
