Man Pushes Dog From SUV on Long Island Road, Drives Off: Authorities

Authorities are looking for the man they say abandoned a bushy-tailed white dog on the side of a Long Island Road, pushing the animal out of an SUV and then driving off.

The Suffolk County SPCA says it got a call about the abandonment on Thursday from someone who said they saw the dog being pushed from the SUV on Sun Valley Drive in Coram. When animal control officers arrived, the animal was sitting nervously by the curb.

It is a crime to abandon a pet in New York, according to Suffolk County SPCA Chief Roy Gross, who called the act “cowardly.”

A $2,000 reward is being offered for information that could lead to the driver’s arrest and conviction. Anyone with information about the driver is asked to call the SPCA at (631) 382-7722.
